Yum! Brands Eco-friendliness

Yum! Brands have both ecofriendly products and initiatives. The brand was awarded a LEED Gold certification, which shows that the company has an ongoing commitment to corporate and social responsibility. A LEED certification is a recognition for the environmental commitment in several areas such as water efficiency, energy & atmosphere, resources, and innovation in design. Yum! Brands was named one of the “100 Best Corporate Citizens” by Corporate Responsibility Officer Magazine. The magazine included documents such as human rights, employee relations, finance, governance, etc.

“In order to reduce its carbon footprint, the restaurant uses solar energy to preheat fresh air coming into the building which reduces the use of natural gas. Apart from that, the restaurant is using a a new lighting control system that maximizes the use of natural light. LED lights, the most energy–efficient available today, were utilized where feasible both inside the restaurant, in the parking lot and on signage. Utilizing more energy efficient kitchen and building equipment, and purchasing renewable energy credits, also minimizes the restaurant’s carbon footprint” (Brands, 2008) (Micaela Bucci)

KFC Ecofriendliness

KFC Yum! Center is committed to reducing our environmental impact. They do so through ongoing efforts to save energy and water, recycle, purchase environmentally preferable products, and help raise awareness of environmental issues. Here are just a few of the projects they have implemented to minimize our environmental impact: 

•  Created a recycling program for glass, plastic, aluminum, cardboard, paper and more

•  Switched lighting to energy-efficient CFL or LED bulbs in many areas

•  Installed smart valves on all men’s urinals, saving thousands of gallons of water each month

•  Implemented a green cleaning policy

•  Created program to purchase recycled-content paper products

KFC Yum! Center is proud to participate in AEG 1EARTH, AEG’s corporate environmental sustainability program. Through AEG 1EARTH, we:

•  Exchange environmental best practices with other venues

•  Track our environmental performance on a monthly basis, measuring energy consumption, water usage, and water diversion

•  Contribute to AEG's progress towards its 2020 Environmental Goals (Diana Sosa)
